Highlander rules are an effort to make Hero Clix Teams more comic book based and less generic war game like. With the Highlander Rules only one version of a character can be used. Sometimes it is simple, like with Mockingbird (Sin). If you use the Veteran version of Mockingbird, you cannot use the Rookie or Experience versions. Some are a bit more complicated and require some knowledge of the characters, like Wolverine. If you include Veteran Logan on your team then you cannot have the REV versions of Wolverine or Patch, the other versions of Logan or the LE or Unique versions of Wolverine or Weapon X on your team.

In this entry you will find an extensive list of characters that are similar or the same. Use this reference when building your teams. In addition you will find an entry detailing all the various alternate reality versions of characters that constitute wholly separate characters.

You can always ask a the presiding Judge to make exceptions for your team, as long as it has a true basis on comic history. That must be done in advance of turning in your player card for the event.

Section One: “Generics”
Some characters it makes no difference how many you have on your team. We call these the Generics or "Army Builder" pieces. These include the criminals, soldiers and aliens that are usually at the top of the Hero Clix Posters and have low collector numbers. In addition to the "TRUE" generics there are characters that have multiple characters for different levels of that piece. We will discuss them further down.

Section Two: Names' the same
There are quite a few instances where there are two (or more) different characters with the same name: (alphabetical order by Universe)
Marvel
Beetle (Sin): There are currently three different people wearing different versions of the Beetle Armor. You may use one each of REV Beetle if and only if you are using them as a thematic team and you are using all three together. This has yet to be resolved so continue taking advantage of it!.
Black Queen. U Black Queen (Jean Grey) from Mutant Mayhem is not the same as the R Black Queen (Selene) from Critical Mass.
Captain Marvel. The three Marvel Characters that call themselves "Captain Marvel" are each represented with different Clix and are, indeed, separate characters U Captain Marvel (CM), R Captain Marvel (Sin), E Captain Marvel (SN).
Crimson Dynamo. At least 6 sets of armor and five individuals have been known as the Crimson Dynamo. The R Crimson Dynamo (Xp) is Anton Vanko, E is Boris Turgenev, V is Yuri Petrovich and LE Dimitri Buhkarin are all different from the REV LE Crimson Dynamo in AW. That one is a remotely controlled suit that slowly is turning on all its systems REV are a progression across several days the LE Gennady Gavrilov is the fully controlled armor (none of which should be AE to Iron Man).
Dr. Doom. LE Dr. Doom (CT) is an LE Doombot that "thinks" it is Dr. Doom. It is not the same as either REV Doctor Doom or the U Dr. Doom from FF (see alternate realities below).
Ghost Rider. The Ghost Rider (and LE Danny Ketch) from Ultimates is not the same as Ghost Rider from Fantastic Forces, Johnny Blaze.
Hyperion: The R Hyperion (SN) is the 616 version and the E and V (SN) are the Squadron Supreme Universe (see alternate universe material below).
Phoenix. U Phoenix (Rachel Summers) piece from UL is not the same Phoenix as in Clobberin' Time U or the Mail-away Collectors Edition from Armor Wars who are both different versions of Jean Grey.
Punisher:REV Punisher (CM) is Frank Castle, Punisher (2099) is Jake Gallows from 2099.
Nova: U Nova (CM) and LE Nova (MM) are both Frankie Raye as the herald of Galactus, REV Novas (SN) is Richard Rider member of the Nova Corp.
Sasquatch. Sasquatch, R and E are different characters. R is the character from Alpha Flight, Walter Langkowski (the same as the LE version). The E version is from Exiles Heather Hudson (from an alternate reality).
Super Apes: R, E & V Super Apes (SN) are all different Apes
Spider-man. The characters named Spider-man in IC, CT, CM, Un, MM, AW and AV are the same character, they are not the same as Spider-man (U) from FF. This is Spider-man 2099, Miguel O'Hara (see alternate realities below).
Yellowjacket. LE Yellowjacket from IC is indeed Hank Pym, as is the Yellowjacket in Fantastic Forces. REV/LE Yellowjacket from CT is Rita de Mara, she stole a costume from his lab.
Thunderbird. R Thunderbird (AW) is not the same as E Thunderbird, they are brothers John and James Proudstar respectively.
Vindicator: U Vindicator (UL) is Heather Hudson, V Vindicator (SN) is her husband James MacDonald Hudson.
Valkyrie: The REV Valyrie from SI is a different person from the Generic 008 R Valyrie (HT), but the same as 055 V Valyrie (HT).

DC
Aquaman: REV Aquaman (HT), LE Arthur Curry (HT), REV Aquaman (Ic) and 101 R Aquaman (JL) are all Arthur Curry, original Aquaman. R 001 Aquaman (JL) is also named Arthur but is not the same person.
Batgirl. U Batgirl (CJ) & 014 E Batgirl (CR) is Cassandra Kain, not the same as REV Batgirl from Unleashed, Barbara Gordon.
Blackhawks: THe REV Blackhawks from Origin are three different individuals, more details later.
Blockbuster. The R Blockbuster (Lg) is Mark Desmond, EV and LE (Lg) is Roland Desmond, Mark’s brother.
Blue Beetle: REV Blue Beetle (HT) & Blue Beetle (CR) are the 'late' Ted Cord. U Blue Beetle (OR) is Jamie Reyes his successor.
Captain Boomerang: U Captain Boomerang (CD) is Owen Mercer, son of 020 V Captain Boomerang (JL).
Cheetah. The REV Cheetah (UN) and REV Cheetah (Ic) are different people, different times.
Clayface. The REV Clayface III from Hypertime is Preston Payne, not the same character as REV Clayface from Collateral Damage, Basil Karlo.
Dr. Fate. The R Dr. Fate (UN) and LE Dr. Fate (OR) is Kent Nelson (the first Dr. Fate and founding member of the JSA). The E Dr. Fate is the gestalt being composed of Eric and Linda Strauss who where part of the JLI. The V and LE Hector Hall are the current Dr. Fate, Hector Hall(all UN).
Firestorm: REV Firestorm (CJ) is the late (Ronnie Raymond), while 018 R Firestorm (JL is Jason Rusch)
Flash. DC:Hypertime REV Flash, 103 R Flash(Barry Allen) & 057 U The Flash (CR), and U Flash (Jay Garick) as well as the KC Flash (LG), U Flash (IC) and V Flash (JL) are all Wally West, so they are not the same at either of these other Flashes. Neither is the John Fox, The Flash from DC 1,000,000 the same E Flash (JL).
Green Arrow: REV Green Arrow (CJ) & 0?? Green Arrow (CR), are all Oliver Queen whereas 014 E Green Arrow (JL) is his son Conner.
"Green Lantern Corps". The REV LE John Stewart from Cosmic Justice; the REV LE Hal Jordan (Un), KC Green Lantern and RV Green Lantern (OR)(Alan Scott), REV (CD) Kyle Rayner and 059 V Green Lantern (JL)(Guy Gardner) while all called Green Lantern, are not the same character.
Hourman: REV Hourman (LG) is Rex Tyler second generation to take the name. 047 R Hourman is an Android from the 83rd century whose programming is based on the DNA of Rex Tyler the original Hourman.
Kid Flash: EV Kid Flash (LG) is Bart Allen, formerly Impulse; 002 R Kid Flash (CR) is Wally West, the original Kid Flash.Lois Lane: Superman's Girlfriend (then wife) Lois Lane BST Lois Lane (DCA) andSR Lois Lane (OR) are not the same as the Crime syndicate's Lois Lane, LE Lois Lane (LG).
Manhunter. The REV Manhunter from CD is not the same as the Manhunter Robots from CJ.
Phantom Lady: RE Phantom Lady (OR) is the first Phantom Lady, Sandra Knight, while the V is her predecessor Dee Tyler.
Red Hood: The LE Red Hood (LG) is teh man who may or may not have become the Joker, 017 E Red Hood (CR) is Jason Todd
Robin: (E) Robin (Ic) and 001 R Robin (CR) are #%&# Grayson the firt person to take teh name Robin. REV Robin (HT), REV Robin (Ic), 013 V Robin (CR) are Tim Drake, the third Robin. Rocket Red. Each of these levels is a different person in the suit. Note that each level (including the LE) has a different Number on its chest.
Speedy. REV Speedy (CD), Mia Dearden, is (obviously) not the same person as R Speedy (Lg), Roy Harper.
Starman: REV Starman (CJ), Jack Knight, is the son of U Starman (OR), Ted Knight.
Steel. The U Steel (LG) is Natasha Irons Niece of REV Steel (HT), REV Steel (OR), John Irons.
Supergirl: The REV Supergirl from UN is the Pre Crisis version, the REV Supergirl from (OR) is the current version of Kara Zor-El, and the LE Supergirl is the dark Black Kryptonite created version from Supergirl (current series) # 4 and 5.
Superman. The Super Man R (Blue) and E (Red) from CD are separate entities. They can be on the same team. BUT they cannot be on a team with any other version of Superman since they are/were aspects of Superman. In the same vein the Golden Age U Superman (OR) is considered different from the other Superman characters as is the Superman from DC 1,000,000 060 E Superman (JL).
Wonder Woman. REV Wonder Woman (CJ), U KC Wonder Woman (Un) and REV Wonder Woman (Ic) are the same (Diana, Princess of the Amazons), but not the same as U Wonder Woman (LG). This is her mother the 'Golden Age' Wonder Woman (Hypolita, Queen of the Amazons). Not to be confused with THE Golden Age LE Wonder Woman (OR). She is Diana as she first appeared in Sensational Comics #1. She alternate Universe versions for the Golden Age Characters. Nor should the new figures 037 Wonder Woman (JL), who is the Amazon Artemis while she donned the title of Wonder Woman the same and the Wonder Woman from DC 1,000,000 052 E Wonder Woman (JL)

Indy
Stix. Each of the Levels of the Stix character from 2000 AD in Indy clix is supposed to represent one of the identical brothers all called Stix.

In all of these cases, you can use one of each of these in you team, as they constitute separate characters.
